Hard fought draw
As Wasteels fought out a consecutive hard fought draw at home to Chelsea Town, many must have left pondering whether a point had been gained, or two lost. At 2 - 0 up half an hour into the first half, Wasteels were in a commanding position to take all three points but were denied by two quickfire goals from set pieces late on in the half. The 2nd half saw a battling perfromance where both teams cacelled each other out. Once again the squad showed outstanding resilience to play with such heart without three first team regulars, proving - as 'Il Mister' keeps banging on about - how vital it is to have a 2nd team packed with able replacements. Lewis 5.5 Not much to be done about the goals and only a few other pieces of action to get involved in. Quiet game, let down by attrocious kicking. Marco 6.5 Good game down the left. Several attacking runs and solid at the back. Stefano 7.5 An excellent performance at the back looking comfortable on the ball and stabilising the back 4. Michael 7 Good game at the back, won pretty much everything he went for despite suffering from last weeks bruised ribs. What commitment. None of that arsy Miller Lite for this Wasteels Centre back at the party on Saturday. Dom 6 Good performance at right back, making several good interceptions. Ash 7 Held the ball up skillfully on the left and put in the ball that led to Riccardo's 2nd goal. Always looked comfortable. Betchi 6 Good battling performance winning his fair share of the ball in an adapted midfield formation. Still couldn't pass wind though. Riccardo 7.5 Excellent 2 goals from Riccardo 'I'm the skipper' Marchini. He claims the first was an overhead kick (it wasn't) and the 2nd was a trademark header. Having a decent captain is still very much a novelty. Alex 6 Couldn't quite have the impact he wanted on a tough Chelsea Town defence. Sacrificed himself for a solid team performance. Sammy 6 Good on the ball and played well down the right side of midfield. Substituted 2nd half. Darren 6.5 Despite not getting on the score sheet, put in a good performance as the lone striker. Not an easy job but did it well. Subs Reda 6 Came on and immediately looked part of the set up despite playing in the 1st team for only the first time this season.
